WORST OSCAR SNUB SUBMISSION
SEAN PENN NOT WINNING FOR I AM SAM

DETAIL ABOUT THIS OSCAR SNUB:
Sean Penn by far had the best performance of the 2001 year in I Am Sam. I think what people have to realize is that Sean Penn is one of his generations best actors. He was flawless in his performance, I rank his performance only second to Dustin Hoffman's in Rain Man. No offense to Denzel, but the only reason I think he got that award was because they screwed him over in The Hurricane and the oscars seem to do a lot of gimme's for past snubs.

Comments: I agree he deserved to win for I am Sam but Hollywood had to give out a "make-up Oscar" to Denzel for overlooking him in Malcolm x and The Hurricane. They do it all the time, Newman got a "make-up Oscar" for Color of Money when he deserved it for The Verdict. Pacino deserved it for Godfather, Serico and posiibly Dog Day but got made up for in Scent of a Woman. Hanks did NOT deserve it for Castawy. They even did it for Sean Penn in Mystic River. Sean did NOT deserve it for Mystic River and certainly not Tim Robbins!!! God!!
I disagree with Penn and Robbins' idiotic social views but after all they are actors and they live in a fantasy world so what else can you expect?

Comments: As someone who works with a mentally handicapped population daily I often find myself disgusted at the portrayal of these handicaps in various media. What Sean Penn did was NOT very representative of the average individual with these talents and challenges. HOWEVER his not-true-to-life amalgamation was handled with tact and subtlety. Because it was non specific, it addressed a broad range of the disabled population. It was in short done well for what it was. I think he is an incredably talented actor who did exactly what he set out to. He moved audiences to tears and cheers and I do not see what else was expected of him. I came away not offended as I so often am and was actually quite thrilled with the film. I cannot see how any of the other contenders that year could hold a candle to the raw talent, and obvious passion in this performance. I declare this a SNUB.

Comments: I think that Sean Penn's performance in "I Am Sam" is one of my least favorites ever. I can't see how he was nominated over Gene Hackman for "Royal Tenenbaums." He didn't deserve it. Plus, playing a retard isn't "acting." It's just babbling like an idiot. Don't get me wrong, there are a lot of great performances by actors playing mentally challenged characters. But Sean Penn's performance in "I Am Sam" isn't one of them.

Comments: Don't get me started on this idiot! It amazed me how stupid he was visiting Saddam Hussein and believing him!

Comments: Not to sound rude, but playing a retard is just the easiest way to get an Oscar nomination. I hate it. He shouldn't have even been nominated

Comments: Penn is a good actor, but his performance in I Am Sam was pathetic. I hate that movie. Hate it, hate it, hate it. He shouldn't have even been a contender that year, Denzel deserved the oscar.
