HONORARY ACADEMY AWARDS NOMINATION
ELVIS PRESLEY

NOMINATION SUBMITTED BY: Patrick Spencer (prez81@hotmail.com)
DATE ORIGINALLY POSTED: 8/5/2001 2:39:28 PM
CURRENT NUMBER OF SUPPORTING COMMENTS: 365

REASON THIS PERSON SHOULD RECEIVE THIS HONOR:
Elvis Presley is without a doubt the most underrated movie star of all time. From 1956-1969, he starred in 31 feature films--all of which were box office successes. His early films, specifically Jailhouse Rock and King Creole were critical successes and are remembered as cultural landmarks. Elvis was devoted to the motion picture industry for a great many years and yet he has not been named one of the top 100 stars of all time although he is one of the most successful movie stars of all time and was even the highest paid actor in the world in 1966. Some countries have not heard of the Tom Hanks, Charleton Heston's, Marlon Brando's, even Humphrey Bogart's. But, any culture with communication with the outside world knows what Elvis means. For this, he should be honored by the academy. His work will be watched for generations, and the man himself will be forever remembered as the greatest star in Hollywood, and all over the world.

And so I just can say : I agree with this nomination.

Greetings from Germany

elvisly yours

Elvis Presley is the Greatest Entertainer of the 20th Century without doubt. His films have been, and are, continually watched by millions of people throughout the World. I know of no other entertainer, living or dead, who has brought so much pleasure through his films and music than Elvis Presley.

Elvis has long been deserving of an Oscar for his lifetime contribution to the Motion Picture Industry and I therefore have no hesitation in giving my recommendation to such an honour.

I would also feel that Elvis is due recognition for his contribution to the film industry over a 16 year period. He was one of the most successful box-office pulls in the late 50's and early 60's. King Creole, Jailhouse Rock and Flaming Star were great performances. He was one of the few truely global artists, recognised by first name only in vitually ever country in the world.

The measure if his work is the enduring appeal. Almost 50 years after he started making films and over 25 years after his death, Elvis films are still being released in DVD and stil attracting audiences in TV. If the primary purpose of the movies is to entertain, the Elvis has done that like no other actor.

Nobody in the world of entertainment, has effected people the way Elvis Presley did. There is just somthing that comes across the screen. He had it all, the looks, the style, the carisma, the charm. He is and was and always be the king of entertainment. If this doesnt justify a award, then nothing does.

Aside from the pleasure that Elvis brought to millions from his own talent the high workrate and output from his movie career provided a gateway for other talents to enter the movie world. Indeed at one point he actually made a film with the specific goal of giving a financial boost to a film studio in danger of folding.

I have to agree with everything that has been said why Elvis should get this award. I can't think of another entertainer that is as big as Elvis is today, 25 years after his death. His movies are still in high demand. He movies were under rated and for the life of me I can't understand why. I have seen movies get awards for best picture of the year and I wouldn't go see it even if it was free. Elvis should have gotten many awards while he was still alive, but it's never to late to correct an oversight. Lets give the greatest entertainer of the world what he should have had all along.

Elvis work is still a huge slice of cinema and is still very sought after today as in the movies Lilo & Stitch and the movie that established the worldwide Number 1 'A Little Less Conversation' - Oceans 11. He made millions for the movie industry and even save 'Allied Artists' going under for a couple of more years when he filmed 'Tickle Me' for them.

Acting-wise in the dramas 'King Creole', 'Flaming Star' and 'Wild In The Country' he gave outstanding performances.

The musicals 'G. I. Blues' 'Blue Hawaii' and 'Viva Las Vegas' are classics of their genre.

No-one deserves this accolade more than Elvis Presley.

Elvis Presley was the consumate entertainer. He had a natural acting ability that allowed him to entertain even with scripts and story lines that were weak. Elvis fan or not, people always enjoy his movies. Adults that were small children or not even born during his movie career, will fondly recount how they watched Elvis movies on TV as kids. His musical contributions are well documented, it is time to recognize his film contributions as well.

I support all that has been said previously. Elvis was an automatic draw no matter hat the movie. He was, and is, loved by millions for his movie roles. "Follow That Dream" is still one of the funniest and entertaining movies for the entire family. Elvis was consistantly one of the highest paid and biggest draws of the '60's. For the most part his acting abilities are far underrated. It is time to recognize a Hollywood Legend.

Elvis Presley, together with the great music and recording stars of the 40´s and 50´s, was partly responsible for the success of the Hollywood musical at a critical period for the industry, the late fifties, and throughout the sixties, which in turn paved the way for the great blockbuster musicals of the early and late seventies, a tradition which carries on to this day. He contrubuted to the development and strengthening of the movie industry, not only by making one succesful musical after another, totalling 33, but even as early as the 1960´s, as a subject for a few major Broadway extravaganzas who later were turned into Hollywood films, such as "Bye Bye Birdie", and the enormously succesful "Grease". In addition to all of the above, the possibility he created, that of the rock star who who could be accepted in Hollywood, set a landmark that every major rock star has tried to follow, and he is still, 25 years after his passing away, the yardstick with which success is measured, not only in the recording industry, but in television, show business in general and, strangely enough, in practically any field of human endeavour.

In the last five years alone, research shows that there are in excess of 400 people known to have made their professions highly succesful, or for being the top person in their respective professions, both living, and dead, some for over three, four, even five centuries, who receinve the accolade being called, no matter the profession, the "Elvis of", the inevitable comparisons with Elvis Presley, no matter how irrelevant, being one of the keys for the instant attainmnet, and continuation, of Elvis´ own iconoclastic position as the quintessential entertainer who just won´t leave our couinciousness, no matter how many years pass.

That he achieved this instant liking, in people´s minds and throughout the world, largely thanks to his movies ( he never toured, or sang outside North America), is a testament not only to how much he influenced Hollywood, and vice-versa, but to the huge American print his mere prescence on the big screen left throughout the world. The Academy could not find a better Ambassador, one whose work continues to thrill, and entertain audiences throughout the world, via cable, television, and the still growing video industry. I second his nomination for all of the above reasons.

and he should be honoured for the sheer joy he gave
to countless millions of people.
elvis made 31 feature film, many good, some not so,
but there is not a actor dead or alive that hasn't
made their share of bad films, some with multiple oscars to there name, so go on and give elvis a break,
he deserves it.

In the words of:
John Lennon : 'before Elvis there was nothing'....and Hal Wallis : 'A Presley picture is the only sure thing in Hollywood'....

Elvis was a trailblazer in music and films and singlehandedly changed the face of music and films - for that alone he should be honoured. He is as popular today - 25 years after his death - as he was in life and an honorary Oscar is the least you should do for him.

I would sincerely like to recommend Elvis Presley for this honorary award. An entertainer’s job as an actor is to appeal to the audience, leading them to want more. And nobody appealed to the audience more than Elvis Presley. He should be considered as the best entertainer that has ever and probably will ever live. In his shortened lifetime he was able to put out many great movies (that have also starred many great actors, such as Walter Matthau and Angela Landsbury)that made the audience feel joy and happiness. These movies were also successful in their own right and are still being purchased and viewed today.
We should all be reminded that even though it has been almost 26 years since he has left this earth, Elvis has not entirely left. Not all have forgotten that joy and happiness that he and his movies have brought. I am only 22 years old, I missed out on being able to see Elvis Presley live and in person but through his movies and songs I am still able to feel the impact he had on the world. I believe that only Elvis Presley could have such an enormous impact on so many generations for so long. Even my younger sister who is 15 loves watching Elvis movies!
Therefore Elvis Presley has forever contributed greatly to the state of motion pictures. His movies are still viewed by millions of people around the world, (you yourself cannot deny that you have not seen an Elvis Presley film, if you haven't you are truely missing out). It is sad to think about the impact he could have had if he would have been able to flourish as an actor like he had always wanted to. But the work that he did do should be respected and honored. I believe that Elvis Presley is very deserving of this award and he should FINALLY be recognized for his great achievements as an actor.
Thank you for your time and please consider Elvis Presley for this distinguished award.

My origins are from India and now settled in Britain.
Basically he was imitated in many musical Indian films
scenes played by the main leading actors and dancers.
As a teenager,I had a fantasy to imitate his emotions
in play. My son who is only 11 years of age loves the starting New Orleans scene in King Creole when Elvis combs his hair to walk on to his terrace to sing Crawfish, entrapping rich culture.
Film Industry has got to acknowledge the value of our love and respect for Elvis in many of his films. His films have touched hearts of many cultures. My children shout for my attention whenever they see an Elvis imitator or himself .

Elvis movies continue to entertain millions to this day and are arguably his most overlooked work. Movies like Jailhouse Rock and Loving You defined 50's rock n roll and King Creole is a masterpiece.
Movies like GI Blues, Blue Hawaii, and Viva Las Vegas and many others that were made in the 60's have become classics. Elvis deserves recognition for his work in the movies.

I totally agree that Elvis should win an Honorary Academy Award. He achieved acting success in films like "Charro", "King Creole", "Flaming Star" just to name a few and then continued on through the 60's with musical films that made everyone happy just by watching Elvis perform and sing. Like someone already said, you could always count on Elvis to sell out theaters. He has made many contributions to the motion picture industry. Elvis definitely deserves this award.

I beleive that Elvis Presley is deserving of this honor. He is one of the most underrated actors of all time and if given the opportunity I feel that he would of eventually been of Oscar caliber. The movies that Elvis Presley starred in proved that he not only could demonstrate undeniable magic on-stage but also on-screen. His movies always leave you with a surreal sense of happiness and only adds to the respect and adoration that one feels for this man. Elvis Presley was a man of many qualities and talents and his skill as an actor was only one of them, one that is deserving of this prestigious award. Thank You-

In two of his best movies(That's The Way It Is and Elvis On Tour), Elvis played Elvis and his parts as a rising star coming from rags to riches in Loving You and Jailhouse Rock established a benchmark that has yet to be reached.

The former theater usher named Elvis Presley is forever in a unique fraternity. He, like Burt Reynolds and Harrison Ford, earned distinction as the most successful box-office star of an individual decade. For Presley, it was the 1960s. (Reynolds - the 70s; Ford - the 80s.)

Presley's standard three films per year served a greater pupose than simply give technicolor screen-time to the handsome, singing King of Rock n Roll.

During a turbulant ever-darkening decade, his films were a welcome escapism from reality, a service every film should provide. Elvis Movies did this very well.

From the front-office bottom-line perspective, revenue from Presley's films (as distributed domestically and consistently into foreign markets) enabled producer Hal Wallis and the studio (Paramount primarily) to finance other projects which required larger budgets than average.

A percentage of box-office receipts from all of Presley's movies often went into the production of Oscar-worthy epic cinematic endeavors. Elvis Presley and his loyal audience worldwide deserve a thank you from the film industry if just for that.

It is easy to see why Elvis should get this honor. He is not recognized enough for what he did contribute to this world while he was with us. His movies are still introducing him to new generations every day. His best acting role was in King Creole and if he had been able to keep the kind of roles that he had for Jailhouse Rock and King Creole he would have been an even greater movie star than he was allowed to be by his manager. NO matter what Elvis was and always will be the greatest!

"A Tribute to Elvis Presley...

Elvis Presley was a legend among his fans, who adored his singing and loved his movies. Music critics consider him the king of rock and roll, while film critics are less kind in regard to his acting. But with his powerful presence and obvious talent, he could have been a great actor, had he been given the opportunity. We'll never know, of course.

I'll leave it to others (see Part II) to describe Presley's early years and his achievement of the pinnacle of musical fame. My primary concern here is with Elvis the actor. Born January 8, 1935, Elvis was already a rock star when he appeared in his first film, "Love Me Tender" (1956). He actually showed some promise as an actor. That film was followed by "Loving You" and "Jailhouse Rock" (both 1957), "King Creole" (1958) and "Flaming Star" (1960). "Jailhouse Rock" and "King Creole" are generally considered his best work by critics, though he was never nominated for any acting awards..."

It was an awesome experience for sure. The Movie shows Elvis as a Crewman on my Tank B15.
I truly believe that Elvis Presley deserves a special Oscar Award for his contribution to the Film Industry.

I second the motion of awarding Elvis an honorary award for his contribution to the film industry. I agree that his movie career has been totally overlooked. Each of his films were total box office successes. Being named the Entertainer of the Century did not just apply to his Music Career. His films are still selling to this day all over the world. Elvis was and still is the most popular, well known entertainer there has ever been. There will never be another like him, ever!! So please recognize him for the HUGH TALENT that he was. Thank you!!

I agree with the nomination of Elvis for an award, his films are still watched by millions around the world.
They are good family entertainment and with his music he has given a lot to the music and film industry.
Some stars get awards and the public do not think they merit them, as the entertainment is nil and it is all the modern crash bang wallop , big noise and so called action films which are easily forgotten. Lvis films were good clean fun and enjoyable to watch without the bad language of today clean fun.
I recommend that Elvis get an honoury award if not an Oscar for his work to music and films.

The Wars past ,but hurt left world wide Hurtung and having no ideal was was to be next in life. Elvis loving , carefree ,breezy movies brought back life as we continued to know until 9-11-2001.But even these changes I think we as ELVIS FANS ARE EVEN MORE DETERMIND TO SEE THE BRIGHTER SIDE.

His movies are being shown and watched within the school system along with Lord of the Flies. The fact that millions of young people, ages 5-18 are studying and watching Elvis' movies and they are part of the curriculum surely must account for an award. Anyone watching the scene from G.I. Blues where he sings to baby in the crib, and singing "They Call Your Daddy Big Boots" can surely attest that YES Elvis was indeed a talented actor and one of the most gifted entertainers of all time. Elvis should get an honary award, he was one of the best movie stars ever.He was also very under rated as an actor, he could have become a great actor if he was ever given the chance, unfortunatley for him his success was also why he was never given the chance at becoming a great actor. The producers, directors, and the colonel found a formula of making very cheap movies that would create and generate large returns at the box office, so why risk it.Even alot of major critics, like roger ebert, leonard malten, say that elvis could have been a great actor, but we only get glimpses of this potential in films like king creole, jailhouse rock, flaming star etc.One US critic even once said Elvis was actually better at playing a rebel, than the great james dean and marlon brando.Even if Elvis never got the chance to prove himself a great actor, he did prove himself as one of the best leading male movie stars of all time.

Here's the thing: the Academy does not give out posthumous Oscars. Those honorary awards go to persons (most of whom have been eluded by Oscar) who are still living. That is one of the requisites. The Academy never breaks its rules. . .
But perhaps, within the Oscar telecast, there could be some kind of segment either about Elvis or about the contribution of rock 'n' roll/music stars on the screen (in which Elvis would be prominent). That would certainly help the ratings of a program that seems increasingly out of touch with viewers!
Now...the MTV Movie Awards--which is a far hipper venue than the Ocars--might be persuaded to do an honorary award. They don't seem to be bound by any rules!

Elvis has proved to be an icon in the movie industry. His movies when shown on television still pull in a substantial audience. Given the chance to truly act, Elvis proved that he could do it and do it well. His films were sure to make money for all involved in the production. The shame of it is twofold--he wasn't taken seriously as an actor(and he wanted to be) and circumstances prevented him (although he really wanted to give it a try) from doing a serious acting role. Just as his music career shows his growth as a performer, I believe given the chance, his film performances would have shown that growth. It's time to recognize both his talent and his contribution. An honorary Oscar is certainly an appropriate way to do this.

Elvis movies though most were less perfect were still a very large part of film history especially as far as young people and the music industry joining with film is concerned. That alone is a monumental and noteworthy achievement. Elvis did have some dramatic and Oscar worthy roles early on bfore the Colonel found out "his movies would make money even with numbers for titles" and refused to let Elvis do other things. Had he been able to do "A star is born" with Barbara Striesand in all likelyhood he would have gotten an Oscar for that. But again the Colonel would not allow him to take 2nd billing to anyone even Barbara. The rest is history. Elvis is an American Icon and legend that will in all probability outlive most of us. And his films are a part of that legend the Oscar should be too. As Elvis himself always said... "Thank you thank you very much" Fred Impens

It is too bad Elvis didn't get to play a great dramatic part such as "A Star is Born" like he shoud have. He certainly could have handled it. He proved it in such movies as "King Creole", "Jailhouse Rock", "Flaming Star", "Charro", "Wild in the Country", "Change of Habit", "Kid Galahad", etc. As for comedy, he was very funny. Some of his movies such as "Follow That Dream" had me in stitches! And as far as romance goes, I think he was as good as or better than guys like Clark Gable, Cary Grant, etc. He certainly was handsomer. In fact, he is the most gorgeous man I have ever seen and ever will see. I've seen him in person 5 times and they are the most exciting and beautiful memories of my life. Just name a bigger star than Elvis Presley? Still as popular today with the public as he was in his lifetime.

Elvis films have never been given recognition by critics or the academy. One could argue that many of the songs from Elvis' films should have been nominated for the best song and that a huge injustice was done.

Year after year Elvis produced the top box office musicals and he showed that not only was a fine actor but that he had a flair for light comedy. Some look at his film career as a failure because he didn't fullfil his promise as an actor. None the less he was a true movie star.

Elvis was the last Great Musical star- the last singer actor with a legitimate film following in an age when the Musical was all but dead. He was one of the most popular Movie Stars of his time. One of his films alone (TIckle Me) saved one studio from going bust.

Elvis showed that he was also a very capable actor in such films as; King Creole, Jailhouse Rock & Flaming Star. And he was a huge draw in Funtastic films such as; Blue Hawaii, Gi Blues & Viva Las Vegas.

The only award for his films was a Golden Globe for 'Elvis On Tour' (1972) for best documentary.

The fact is Elvis was not recognised properly in his lifetime. And is still not being recognised today. The Awards that he recieved were mostly sales awards and were from the people.

An award for Elvis would be an acknowledment of the peoples choice -none of his fans expect him to be recognised by the institutions because he hasn't been in the past -but we live in hope.

Don't be snobs -don't snub Elvis. He deserves respect and this award would be truly meaningful and would be very well received.

Elvis, if you've got the internet up there then you will be pleased that you are recieving yet another award. From those that matter - The Fans.
This webpage is testimony, more than any mantlepiece decoration, that you are deserving of the recognition you are recieving.
It's taken more time to type all these posts on here than it would have to mould an oscar. If they didn't have the integrity to give you the oscar you deserved when you were alive then I would find it hypocritical if their short sighted judgement is easily overcome by the opinion of those that have the pleasure of knowing what a great actor and great entertainer you were and still are.
Elvis, you knew your position as an entertainer and you knew when not to get involved in the politics of organisations.
I sincerely hope they don't push you into that now.
Take this webpage as an award for your achievments within the motion picture industry instead.

I agree with every above argument. I live in South Africa. I have all of Elvis' movies. My teenage children ask me on Saturday evenings: "Hey Mom, which Elvis movie are we going to watch tonight?"

Elvis Presley movies are good, clean fun and put a smile on our lips, a song in our hearts and give us the courage to go out and do our best, even under bad cirumstances.

Since Elvis started out in 1956 (up till today), he was never taken seriously by the media or the film industry. He chose not to socialize with the elite in the celluloid world of Hollywood and did not attend the premieres of his movies. So, Hollywood shunned him.

It is time to correct that. Elvis Presley needs to be recognized for his dedication to the industry, his professionalism, his acting ability as well as his drawing power. Elvis could play any kind or role superbly, be it drama, musical or comedy.

He deserves this Oscar. His recognition is long overdue.

I also believe Elvis deserves this award, not only he was en is still the king in music but he would be a very good actor if only he had the change to play in more serious movies. He proved in a few movies he realy could act, look at the movies King Creole, Flaming Star and Jailhouse Rock. He made 31 movies and they all had a worldwide success. Even his latest documentary Elvis on Tour was awarded with a globe for best documentary in 1972. So let's give him this award to recognise his skills as an actor.

Elvis Presley should be nominated, because he is the world's leading singer of all times. His carisma and voice is one of a kind and it's about time that people start to realize this. He doesn't deserve to be treated as a dead guy who was overweight at the end, just because some people are empty headed and only look at the out-side of someone and not the inside of a person. He deserves to be treated with all respect and honor. Afterall, it's the least we can do for someone who did so much for the music and the people. (He touched (and still touches) every people's hearts who understood and still understand him.) So if someone deserves the award it's ELVIS.

He always used to dream with be an actor, in his self words:

"When I was a child I was a dreamer. I read comic books and I was the hero of the comic book. I saw movies and I was the hero in the movie. So every dream that I ever dreamed has come true a hundred times."

ELVIS PRESLEY DESERVES THE HONORARY OSCAR AWARD BECAUSE ALL OF HIS MOVIES WERE HITS AND LOVED ALL OVER THE WORLD. MOVIES ARE SUPPOSED TO MAKE YOU FEEL GOOD AND ALL OF ELVIS' MOVIES DID THAT. HE NEVER MADE A BAD MOVIE AND HE GAVE HIS ALL WHICH MADE SEEING AN ELVIS MOVIE A SPECIAL EXPERIENCE. CHILDREN WHO SEE HIS MOVIES FOR THE FIRST TIME BECOME INSTANT FANS, AS PARENTS OF 3 CHILDREN, 8 GRANDCHILDREN AND 2 GREAT-GRANDCHILDREN WE KNOW THIS AS FACT AND IT'S NOT BECAUSE WE MADE THEM LIKE THE MOVIES. THEY LOVED THEM FOR THEIR OWN REASONS. THEIR FRIENDS ALSO LOVED THE MOVIES. I DON'T KNOW OF ANY OTHER MOVIE STAR THAT CAN DO THAT. ELVIS DESERVED AN OSCAR DURING HIS LIFETIME BUT WAS NEVER NOMINATED WHICH IS VERY SAD. WE REMEMBER HAL WALLIS SAYING ELVIS WAS A GREAT MOVIE STAR WHO KNEW ALL HIS LINES AND THE LINES OF EVERYONE ELSE IN THE MOVIE. ALL THE WELL KNOWN ACTORS AND ACTRESSES IN THE MOVIES ELVIS WAS IN SAID THEY WERE DEEPLY IMPRESSED WITH HIS ACTING ABILITY. ELVIS MOVIES WILL ALWAYS BE LOVED AND WE FEEL HE DESERVES THE HONORARY OSCAR FOR THE GREAT JOB HE DID IN EVERY MOVIE HE MADE. TCEM IN OHIO WITH TLC.

Nobody in the world of entertainment has effected people like Elvis Presley did. No entertainment can keep going in like Elvis can even after 26 years. Elvis played his part in the movies great. I loved him Charro, that is just one. Follow That Dream he showed what he could do. All of his movies were terrific. I would take any young person today to see an Elvis movie. I have just read through all the messages ... and i am in total agreement ... Elvis should rightfully recieve an honorary oscar for his great contribution to the movie industry.
He made some classic films ... such as the one where he played a "busboy" called Danny Fisher.
The movie was adapted for the big screen from the novel " A stone for Danny Fisher" ...
Taht movie as you all know is " King Creole" ... an all time classic and favourite of mine!

In many of his films ... elvis not only learnt his lines ... he also learnt the lines of the entire cast!
Is that not a sign of a great actor?

COME ON ... POWERS THAT BE IN HOLLYWOOD! ... DO NOW ... WHAT YOU SHOULD HAVE DONE MANY YEARS AGO!
SHOW RECOGNITION TO A GREAT ACTING TALENT THAT HAS ENTERTAINED GENERATIONS ... AND CONTINUES TO DO SO ... TO THIS DAY!
GIVE ELVIS THE RECOGNITION HE SO TRULY DESERVES ... AN OSCAR FOR HIS GREAT CONTRIBUTION TO THE MOVIE INDUSTRY!

Take care all ....

Elvis was a natural in everything he did and was the most under-rated actor. Those that worked
with him all thought he had the ability to become a great actor. It is a shame that he was never
given the opportunity for more serious acting roles, although the roles he played in
Love Me Tender, King Creole, Jailhouse Rock, Wild in the Country and Flaming Star
proved that when he was given a good script he was an actor to be taken very seriously.

There is not enough room here to list the numerous reasons Elvis deserves the Honorary Oscar. Can you think of any other entertainer that has had a greater impact? Elvis... the name is known through out the world. He was global before the web. His movies were huge box office draws in the 50's and 60's and are still watched (and LOVED) to this very day. 25 years after his death, he remains The King. Who, but Elvis, is more deserving of this award?

There are many deserving stars over the years but Elvis Presley has never received the recognition for what he did for the film industry. The movies were designed for the type of movie-going audiences of the time. (remember the beach party type movies that were so popular?) No one stars in the leading role of 31 feature films should go unrecognized by the industry or the world! It's time to do what is right - honor the memory of America's greatest stars, of which Elvis Aaron Presley is definately one of the finest of all time!

As a long-time Elvis fan, I'm delighted to second this special nomination! Elvis did so very much for the film industry, selling so many tickets for his movies, the producer was able to finance the other "big draws" of the day. His movies also introduced a large number of actors to the viewers who became very well-known later (another stepping stone). The fact that his movies still are watched with such regularity proves what movies are made for---complete entertainment. ELVIS was, and remains, such a positive force in the movie industry. Please Seriously consider him for such a deserving award.

I have to say that I absolutely and totally agree with this nomination. In my opinion, Elvis Presley not only was the most talented and greatest singer and entertainer to ever walk the face of this earth but he was also one of the greatest actors to ever live and I think it is high time that the academy recognized his contribution to the movie industry. Yes, some people may think that Elvis' movies were silly, even Elvis didn't like some of his own movies but for the time that they came out, in the 1960's, that was the style of movies that were out back then such as the Frankie And Annette Beach Movies, Jerry Lewis Movies, Jerry Lewis and Dean Martin Movies, Where Angels Go Trouble Follows Movies and many more. Each and everyone of these movies are all considered classic movies today, especially Elvis' movies. Elvis' movies are still shown on tv today and you can turn on the tv any day or any time of the day and catch an Elvis movie which I think is wonderful because it enables the younger generation to learn a bit more about Elvis besides just learning about his tremendous singing career. As an actor, Elvis was not only a wonderful dramatic actor in roles such as his earlier role in King Creole to his later role in Charro but he was also an excellent comedic actor in his movies such as Stay Away Joe and Live A Little Love A Little and many, many more. Elvis filmed 33 movies total which includes the two documentaries, Elvis That's The Way It Is and Elvis On Tour. You show me any other singer who has filmed that many successful movies. I don't know of any. Elvis also had a tremendous stage and film presence, charisma, a wonderful personality and sense of humor plus great facial expression, not to mention his tremendous voice and all of these only enhanced his dramatic and comedic roles in his movies even more. Yes some people may call Elvis' movies silly because he sang during alot of the scenes where in some of those situations that were shown most people probably wouldn't break out into a song and Elvis sometimes did not want to sing during certain scenes but his beautiful and powerful singing voice only made the movies even more of a classic. Elvis himself referred to some of his movies as Travelogues but I would take his travelogues any day over some of the movies you see out today that are filled with nothing but drugs, violence and raunchy sex. You have to ask, what kind of example do todays movies give to children. At least Elvis' movies do not set a bad example for the children of today like some of the movies that are coming out today. At least his movies did not teach children how to get involved in drugs and gangs and to go out killing people and having raunchy sex with just anyone so they can catch a disease like aids. Elvis' movies were nothing but pure, clean and innocent fun and for this and many other reasons he deserves recognition from the academy for his wonderful and tremendous contribution to the world of film. I Rest My Case. Long Live The King Of Rock And Roll And Of Movies In My Opinion!

Sincerely,
Gigi Dixon
South Florida

I certainly do vote for Elvis for a honary Oscar. It is an idea whose time has come. Elvis lives today as much as he ever did. Elvis symbolised the 60's Baby Boomer generationin his movies. Elvis understood human values so well and he portrayed them so admirably in movies like Wild In TheCountry (outstanding) Blue Hawaii Gi Blues, Roustabout, Change of Habit. The 50's movies well they just stand out on their own.

The bottom line is that Hollywood OWES this to Elvis Presley! It was Hal Wallis and Hollywood that wound up ruining Elvis' film career by forcing him into weak roles. Elvis wanted to be a serious actor and proved he had potential in the early part of his career. Films like King Creole and Jailhouse Rock stand out as quality films still today decades later. When the people in charge of Elvis' film choics read about the life of Elvis they should be ashamed for what they did to him! He made them millions of dollars and they showed him no respect at all. As I said before, Hollywood OWES this award to Elvis Presley!!!

Everyone knows that Elvis Aaron Presley is and always will be the king of rock and roll. He is a cultural icon, not only for America, but for the whole world. He is the one who brings people of all walks together thru his music and incredible voice. Elvis Presley is a symbol of hard work. He taught the young generation to dear to dream and to not let the past generations to pass the prejudices on anymore. Still today he brings joy and laughers to people around the world. And if the humankind is wise, then we will se that all of us can learn many things from that man. His devotion for his audience was to strong, his generosity can never be compared to others and his love and loyalty towards the world is never ending. We can even learn many things from his mistakes. He literally ganged the world.
Not only was Elvis Presley greatest singer and entertainer, but he also was a great human and an great actor. Yes he was a great actor, not only on the screen were he mad the worst movies great just by his presents in them, but he was also a great actor of the screen. Wile he had pain and sorrow of his own Elvis would still put a smile on his face to bring joy to millions of peoples around the world.
The movies that he did may not be the best. But if you look at his acting in the movies you’ll se that he really could act, but was never given the chance to show how good he was.
I believe that Elvis Presley deserves to be honoured with this Oscar simply because as humble as he was Elvis would be very proud and honoured. And because he was and is the greatest influence in the entertainer world. After all the things he brought in to our lives and still do, this is the least we can do.

I'd like to also nominate Elvis for this award - I've read many of the previous comments (tho not all, because, predictable, there are so many!) and agree with them all. I'm not going to pretend Elvis' movies were all works of art - some of them were pretty bad. But people are still watching them and buying the videos and DVD's, aren't they? And not only was Elvis charismatic and box-office gold, the man COULD actually act when given the opportunity such as in King Creole or Wild in the Country. Over a period of several days I have read every one of the posts. It has all been said, in evey way possible.
Every Elvis fan in the world will agree with all that has been said, but, more importantly, so will those that do not call themselves Elvis fans. This man deserves this award probably more than anyone EVER considered for such an honor. And, it should be done with much fanfare, as it is long overdue. In fact, he should not only receive this honorary oscar....he should also be given the Outstanding Lifetime Achievment Award. I seriously doubt that any other
entertainer, be it acting or any other form of entertainment, has done as much for the world of entertainment or for the movie industry....certainly no other ever guaranteed the industry of instant box office success 33 times...in other words, every time
a film was made starring Elvis Presley....and has continued to bring in the financial rewards, even 26 years after his death. You know what---IT "AIN'T" OVER EITHER! Those rewards will continue for many more years to come...so, honor this phenomenon in every way possible. HE DESERVES IT!

Elvis is the Worlds Greatest singer to this very day,
his movies are great entertainment for all ages, he worked hard as an actor, you only have to watch such classics as King Creole, Jailhouse Rock, Loving You to see that he had enormous talent as an actor, as an actor he was a comedian ,the straight man, the hood, the sensitive guy his ability was endless and as such is definately entitled to an Honorary Academy Award..what more can be said that other posters have not said...
Elvis Deserves this recognition.....

All the names on the lists are great actors and actress' but Elvis left us with a legacy that just can't be topped. I own all of his movies and would never part with any of them. He could make a bad script look good. It is a well known fact that in the movie "Love Me Tender" he not only learned his part but every one elses parts too. That says alot about his dedication to being an actor.

Elvis was always dismissed as an actor despite the enormous talent and potential he showed in many of his films. I have no doubt that if he had been able to take some of the roles he was offered (eg.A Star is Born) he would be remembered today as a greatly talented actor as well as singer.Official recognition is long overdue for him.

If one looks at Elvis' body of acting work, you have to conclude that he was actually an excellent light comedic actor who could also do serious roles when provided the chance. Moreover, Mr. Presley could certainly carry a musical with his singing talent, making him one of the most diverse leading men to ever take to the silver screen. Combine that with his strong, sullen looks and charm and you have a leading man that frankly was not limited in any area aside from the scripts he was given. So I propose a test....... If you can name any one person who would have done a better job - in sum total - in all of Elvis' 31 movies -than give the award for them. But if not, I think Elvis definitely deserves the nod.

You see, when the test is applied, it really becomes a no brainer. Because no other actor in Hollywood history could have made those movies which called for good looks, musical talent, comedic timing and manly presence.

Dean Martin is one of the few that come to mind, but he didnt have the edge or toughness that Elvis exudes. Sinatra was not good looking....... And so on.....

Three of Elvis' movies were particularly good: Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, and Flaming Star. Although Elvis never reached his very real acting potential owing to poor management decisions, even some of his less serious movies were box office successes and have great entertainement value. Even after everyone had written him off, his last few movies are actually very interesting.

Elvis Presley had tremendous talent as an actor, just take a look at Loving You, Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Wild in the Country and Charro or Change of Habit later, or Love me Tender, his very first movie. Or look at Viva Las Vegas, Live a little, love a little, such beautiful comedies. He could do drama a n d comedy, that is rare, he was a supertalent in a spectacularly wide field, not only musically, which is clearer than clear anyway but also in the movies!!! That must finally be recognized. Just l o o k at him doing things. There were movies he certainly hated doing, no wonder. That shows, too. But just look at him acting.

Elvis should not only get an honorary oscar, but an
appology from the people responsible for the literal
misuse of his talent. Accolades should be given from the actors themselves for surviving in an industry that gave one of their own no real opportuity to become the good actor he wanted to be. In spite of the redundant, horrible scripts, and the prostitution of principles for monitary gain, Elvis was phenominal with what they gave him to work with. No other actor has survived in the movie industry the way Elvis Presley has INSPITE of what was done to him. People watch those horribly scripted movies for one reason. To see Elvis Presley. It is only right and just that all the names of the people who did this to Elvis are
listed in the credits of each movie and people know who the mercenaries were and are. They wlll forever be given credit as the men and studios who exploited Elvis Presley. I hope everytime they receive a check for an Elvis movie, it serves as reminder of an inferior piece of work and how much prouder they would be today if one ounce of integrity would have gone into that work. Elvis could have been the actor he
wanted to be if any of them had taken him seriously and seen the great potential instead of dollar signs.

Elvis wanted so much to be an accomplished dramtic actor, but except for a couple of movies, "King Creole" for one, he wasn't given the opportunity to really show the world what incredible acting talent he had. In the simpler times of the 50s and early 60s to millions around the world Elvis was America. He never realized his full potential as an actor, but his goal of just entertaining people for 90 minutes and helping them forget their real life troubles was accomplished nearly every time. His movies were not great art, but were light hearted and fun. His few dramas showed their was more to the man than fluff, the shame is he was not allowed to grow as an actor and filmmaker. He has been ignored because of the lightweigh nature of his films. Good movies should ENTERTAIN above all else. His did this for millions worldwide. Today we watch them and still can go back to the days when this was the way we wanted to spend our Fridays and Saturday at the drive-in. viva la elvis! damn right elvis deserves an honorary oscar. he made it posible for rock and pop stars to be huge box office draws in hollywood. i think the reason elvis never was considered for an oscar was because he was so controversial. i know there were many who were jealous of his success and they just didn't want him to have their precious statue. after all everyone knows the oscars are not voted on by the public but by hollywood's elite. elvis was just as important or more important (it depends on who you ask) as bob hope, shirley temple, and frank sinatra who won honorary oscars. he gave money to actors old age homes in the largest donation ever to that cause. he also never complained publically about being shafted by the academy like cher did after she finally won her well deserved oscar. for those reasons and many others i could name, he at least deserves an honorary oscar.

That includes presidents, singers, actors, doctors, sports stars, etc. So much of the music he made touched and contuniues to touch people of all ages all over the world. The movies he made varied in quality as with all actors, however, he made more good movies than most who have received the oscar. I would have to say that Elvis deserves this honorary academy awards nomination. Comming from a very messed up home life, I have often turned to watching his movies to help me feel better. And, they have always delivered. My favorite Elvis film would have to be King Creole, just because his acting is so great. Everything in the film, the singing, and even his character's facial expressions suck me into this movie every time I see it, all of it appeals to my emotions. I have seen most all of his movies, and they make me feel good after watching them. He does have definite acting ability. I love his songs, some of them envelop me like a hug. I am 22 years old, and I have loved Elvis ever since I was very young, I wish i would have been around when he was alive, so that i could have seen him at least once in concert. However, he continues to live through his movies and music. If I had ever gotten the chance to meet him in person, i would say, "Elvis, thank you for all that you are, you have touched my heart and the hearts of millions with your beautiful voice and talent." He will never be forgotten.

Look at the acting and not the story. They all made money, were all watched and are still viewed today.I urge you not to let his recognition go unnoticed. I totally support this nomination.

Elvis' movies had a tremendous impact on the youth in this country and also worldwide and they still do, more than twenty-five years after his death.

Through his 31 films he was able to reach the youth of nearly every country in this planet. He was able to bring together fans from all over the world, uniting them through his films and his music. Even after his untimely death in 1977 his films have been released first in Beta/VHS formats and now on DVD and have gone on to sell millions of copies.

I traveled extensively during the 60's, 70's, 80's and into the 90's and I never visited a country that the name Elvis was not recognized.

His movies have played in every country in this world and even though his contributions were never recognized by the Academy, his popularity has continued to grow worldwide.

The National Academy of Recording Arts and Science has recognized his contributions, both artistically and through his charitable donations. And, as a member, I also strongly supported his lifetime achievement awards. As a non-active member of SAG, I also strongly support this nomination.

The Academy has often overlooked many of their legends and have made efforts to recognize the talents of these mega-stars after they have passed away. So it is with Elvis Aaron Presley. It is time to correct this wrong by awarding a special Oscar to the legend and quintessential entertainer, Elvis Aaron Presley.

Please consider this nomination.

Movies are made for entertainment & Elvis' movies certainly fit the bill for that! They were & are entertaining. Some of the movie scripts that Elvis had to use were not always the best, but Elvis performed his magic on them, made them his & made them very enjoyable. Only he could have done that!Considering the fact that his last (31st) movie was "Change of Habit" in 1969,he died 27 years ago & his movies are still popular & rerun on TV regularly, the fact that kids today still watch his movies.... I sincerely think he deserves this award. Like the song Elvis recorded way back in 1958....."DONCHA' THINK IT'S TIME???"

There are only three people known by their first names in every country in the world - Jesus, Santa and Elvis!!!! No matter what anyone may say for and against either of the other two Elvis is the only one we truly know did exist!!! But just like the other two his magic nonetheless was and is still working 27 years after his death!!! If Santa or Jesus were nominated - I bet they would get an honorary award - lets give Elvis what he's long overdue and definitely more than deserving!!!!

IF the Academy represents entertainment then give Elvis his honorary Oscar. He never got to reach his full potential as an actor but for pure wholesome family entertainment his films are unforgettable. NOBODY did more for the entertainment industry than did Elvis. Hal Wallis was quoted as saying "the only sure thing in Hollywood is an Elvis movie". His films make you feel good and they take you to a simpler and more beautiful place where life is a wonderful thing. As a child I grew up watching his movies and I always thought life would be one big Elvis movie where you ride carefree down its highways on your motorcycle as you sing a happy song while music plays behind you from the trees. Then I realized that was not the way life would be, but it is a great dream to have to try and make the world a place just like he portrayed it to be. I recently got to visit the location in Yankeetown Florida where Follow that Dream was filmed. It was the fulfillment of a lifelong goal. After 44 years the place hasn't changed that much and I remember sitting in the theatre as a small boy wondering where that place was and how I could get there. I did it! He had a magical effect on my life and inspired me to follow my own dream and i'm on my way. I was inspired and moved by him and that's what entertainment should do. Why not give the greatest Singer/entertainer whoever lived and entertainment award from an academy that represents entertainment?

ELvis is great. What some people don't realize is that he is just as big today as he was back then. I am only 16 years old. I like rap, hip hop, r&b, punk rock and pop like most kids. I also love classic rock like led zeppelin, pink floyd, etc etc. There are many people at my highschool who like elvis just as much as anyone. His music never gets old. His movies don't either. Without Elvis, we would not have any of the music we listen to today. Every type of music evolved from what elvis did. Without elvis we'd still be listening to Big band music and show tunes. Elvis is awesome. Even his low budget corny movies are fun to watch. Every movie elvis did was a box office success. Even the ones in the mid 60's when he was in a slump drew big crowds. They all came to see him because he was Elvis Presley! King Creole is a master-piece and can be compared to any movie of today. The acting is great and the songs are too. Elvis may very well be the best actor of the 50's and 60's. He had such a natural talent. He never took acting lessons. His early films were magnificent. Until about 1963 he had good scripts to act with. From that point on he was given horrible scripts. Elvis did the best he could with it. He was offered the lead role in West Side Story which got like 10 academy awards. Colonel Parker's greedy ass wouldn't let him have it. The colonel cared more about money than what elvis' legacy would be. So i say damn the colonel. But i also give him respect for making elvis who he wa...so lets give the colonel his props but still damn him haha. But just think of this. If you were to think of one man to represent the 50's and 60's music and movies, who would you pick. Johnny Cash? Bob Dylan? Frank Sinatra? NO WAY, Elvis Presley represents 50's and 60's pop culture. So therefore, if anyone deserves an academy award, it is Elvis Presley, the greatest entertainer and musician of all time.

As a fan and impersonator of the late King, such an award for Elvis is long overdue. In fact Elvis deserves (to use the simple present tense) such award more than anybody else, living or dead. Elvis should be given a Novel Peace Prize for bringing people of the world together in obsession of one culture - the Elvis culture - which certainly and eternally brings peoples of all cultures, religions, class, creed, colours and backgrounds from around the globe, into one entity, one purpose, one love and one worship - Elvis. He was, He is, He will the Demigod the world desperately needed, needs and will need. Elvis is eternal. He deserves an Oscar for World Entertainer of the Second Millennium. i believe it is a travesty that elvis never received so much as a nomination for an academy award. he put out some great movies regardless what the critics and the hollywood establishment has brainwashed the public into believing. how can you say his performances in "love me tender", "loving you", "jailhouse rock". "king creole", "wild in the country", "flaming star" and others weren't worthy of an oscar nomination? you can't justify it. the establishment in hollywood has told the public that they know what's good for movie goers for far to long. they get pissed when the republicans are screwing up the country but when they are doing the same thing to our culture they don't want anybody to say or do anything about it. what a double standard! elvis will eventually win the honorary academy award anyway so the academy needs to do the right thing and give this great entertainer the award he rightfully earned while he was alive.

The movies that Elvis Presley starred in prove that he not only had undeniable magic on-stage but also on-screen. His movies always leave you with a surreal sense of happiness and only adds to the respect and adoration that one feels for this man. Elvis Presley was a man of many qualities and talents and his skill as an actor was only one of them, one that is deserving of this prestigious award. Elvis' great acting abilities are present in all of his movies and his dramatic abilites shine in Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Flaming Star, Follow That Dream (Courthouse scene), Change of Habit. Elvis Presley played a vital role in the movie business in the 50's and '60. His early movies, Love Me Tender, Loving You, Jailhouse Rock and King Creole are fantastic movies, each delivering worldwide hits and reaching milions and milions of people. Acting wise Jailhouse Rock and King Creole are very good deliverances by Elvis. In the 60's Elvis delivered the ultimate beach movie, a genre very populair at that time, ever: Blue Hawaii. Another very good movie, showing his great comedy timing, was Viva Las Vegas with Ann Margret. His movies continued to sell and attrack a big audience but the quality of the movies tended to go downwards. Fact: the money grossed by Elvis movies was used by the studio's to pay for the movies that did win Oscars in those days. The last picture Elvis did (besides two concert movies in the 70´s) was Change Of Habbit. A good performance that dealt with the theme of apartheid and the Ghetto´s. A risque theme in those days )bearing in mind that Marten Luther King was jus shot). For that Elvis and the movie should have deserved more. For all his hard work in the movie business and the pleasure that Elvis gave to millions worldwide with his movies Elvis surely deserves an honorary Oscar.

Elvis , is almost certainly the most influential entertainer and icon of the 20th centurary whose appeal goes into to 21st Centurary.
The big bang of popular music happened in 1956 and Elvis was it's catalyst. It is no exaggeration to say that before and after Elvis is a major mark in the field of entertainment. Many in the industry consider him a better actor than he was ever given credit for.
The award would be recognition of his great impact, influence and appreciation and would be apt comming in 2010 his 75th birthday year.

Elvis Presley and his amazing acting abilities have always been and unfortunately continue to be so undeservedly underrated He was able to be either a dramatic or comedic actor with such natural ease. Even though many of his many films are always looked at as "fluff" or " mindless escapism entertainment" all one needs to do is look at some of the roles he brilliantly portrayed in "Jailhouse Rock", "King Creole", "Wild In the Country" or "Flaming Star" to see what an extremely talented actor he was. The only reason that his abundance of acting talent was not able to thrive and continue to develop in that vein is because as he himself said many times "Hollywood's image of him at the time was wrong" and unfortunately he wasn't given enough opportunities to prove that. For all of the amazing work that he did through his films, whether they were a lightweight comedy or a serious heartfelt dramatic piece, he truly deserves to win this Honorary Academy Award!!!

King creole,Jailhouse Rock,Flaming star these were as good if not better than a lot of films at the time and should be celebrated,Elvis in my opinion should have received more awards for his films especially the ones I have mentioned above, even some of the weaker 60's movies have they moments is comic timing was spot on.

All about him is remarkable, even his movies.
He was an excellent actor but was rarely given a decent plot that made him shine! Some of his movies are great, though. My favorite has always been Roustabout.
I LOVE YOU ELVIS!!!

I believe Elvis should recieve this award. His movies cross over the borders of age, race, and financial status. Elvis movies are known & are still shown all over the world to this day. His movies introduced the world to the new rock'n roll youth culture. His impact in cinema is stil felt today. Just look at movies like Forrest Gump, Houndog & True Romance that use his image as part of the story.

Elvis is so deserving of this Academy Award because of his movie career in doing 31 - 33 movies and I can guarantee that there is not one celebrity out there today that has ever done that amount of movies that he did in the period of 1957 - 1968 it was an achievement in itself. It is such a shame that he cannot be here to receive this award as he would surely be very proud of it. Elvis you will never be forgotten in this life time of ours. You are always in our hearts.

Elvis' body of film work appealed to a very wide audience! As importantly, and despite what some critics say, his film catalog was a diverse one well beyond the stereotypical "Elvis travelogue". For example, in a film sense, Love Me Tender is very different to Jailhouse Rock; Blue Hawaii; The Trouble With Girls; Live A Little, Love A Little; or Change of Habit. And each of these films is very different in structure to all of the others!

Elvis was really a great actor and I mean it in every sense of the word. You can blame Elvis for not becoming a serious dramatic actor, but his movies and documentaries were very entertaining and still great fun to watch. The best dramtic and cultural worthy movie fails if it isn´t entertaining. So give the greatest Entertainer of all times what he deserves!

He spent the better part of twelve years making his films which were all successful and are still shown regularly on television throughout the world.

While some of Elvis' movies weren't great, I believe he turned lemons into lemonade. He was great in some good movies, like King Creole, Jailhouse Rock, Flaming Star and I loved Change of Habit. He was very talented actor. He gave it his all even when he didn’t like the script. His concert "documentaries are superb", That's the Way it is” and Elvis on Tour started a trend. Elvis deserves the respect from Hollywood once and for all. Elvis in my opinion was the greatest entertainer of all times. I was only 11 when he died and I still listen and watch him all the time, I don't know any other artist out there that will still be relative 32 years after their death like Elvis is and will continue to be in the future. So do the right thing for a change and honor a true LEGEND, THE ONLY CHOICE is ELVIS...

Elvis Presley films are legendary throughout the world. Elvis could not appear around the world for all of his fans so he decided to make films instead. This was the only opportunity the fans could get to see Elvis. They were all successful at the Box Office and many of them had oscar winning performances in them. Unfortunately, many high brow film critics, could only complain about them as they were not of the 'Citizen Kane' type of movie. Despite this, the films are still being shown today on television and as a body of work are a credit to Elvis. Tony Curtis stated recently that Elvis' films will become more important as time goes by and I agree with him.

Elvis deserves an Honorary Oscar for his numerous fine acting performances which have been seen by countless millions.

Elvis made a lot of people happy through his films which were, for the most part, lighthearted and entertaining. Elvis produced some fine performances in such films as 'Jailhouse Rock', 'King Creole', 'Flaming Star', 'Loving You', Wild In The Country, 'Kid Galahad', 'Charro' and 'Change Of Habit' among others. The queues outside cinemas for his films in the 1950's and early sixties were legendary and the atmosphere inside was, at times, just like a live concert.

Elvis' body of work in the cinema is still revered by people throughout the world, mainly on television.

Elvis is fully deserving of an Honorary Academy Award and I hope he gets this soon.

Elvis was a good actor. He showed that in several of his movies like Jailhouse Rock, King Creole, Charro, Flaming Star and Change of Habit. Throughout his career Elvis made many movies and as a body of work they are unique. Most were lighthearted comedies, some were serious and a couple were documentaries. Hal Wallis once said "The only sure thing in Hollywood is an Elvis Presley film" indicating that all of his films were sure to make money. Elvis had some fine acting parts in such films as 'King Creole'; 'Jailhouse Rock; 'Flaming Star';'Follow That Dream''Wild In The Country' and others.

There will never be another like Elvis - he was truly unique. He deserves to be given an Honorary Oscar for his endeavours.

Elvis Presley deserves to be awarded an Honorary Oscar for the following three reasons:

(1) Elvis devoted most of his career making entertaining films

(2) Some of the performances were outstanding, particularly the singing and dancing - who could forget such performances as 'Jailhouse Rock'; 'King Creole'; 'Mean Woman Blues'; 'Teddy Bear'; 'Got A Lotta Livin' To Do'; 'Love Me Tender'; 'Can't Help falling In Love' and 'Return To Sender'.

(3) All of his films were financially successful and a couple of them saved certain film studios from going bankrupt.

I support the nomination for an honorary academy award for Elvis Presley. All his movies were well crafted and were said to be the only sure things in the box office in Hollywood at that time. If only for these, he should be given an honorary award. In films where he was given meaty parts, he also proved that he could act. His presence was riveting whether it be on the silver screen or on stage. He brought excitement to the movie industry during his time. I fully believe he deserves recognition from Hollywood.

The dance scene from Jailhouse Rock has become a classic in its own right. Elvis' acting in King Creole was praised by a New York Times critic at the time. Robert Plant of Led Zeppelin called the King Creole soundtrack "otherworldly". Some of Elvis' films in the 60s saved small movie studios from bankruptcy. For these reasons alone Elvis certainly deserves an honorary Academy Award!
